Nazareth is the place where Jesus lived for thirty years, unknown, despised, poor, working with his hands, in silence and obscurity.  How this mystery of Nazareth has taken hold of me!  I want to imitate it with all my strength.  I want to live like Him—poor, humble, hidden—unknown to the world, close to the poor, silent before men, and totally given to God…. Let us make ourselves very small, very humble, let us take the lowest place.  Let us seek not to be seen, not to be known, not to be loved—but only to love.  Jesus chose the last place; how can we desire any other?
